Metacentric height (GM)
The height of metacenter is a compromise on comfort and safety. A low value of GM might mean a perception of lack of safety as the vessel appear very tender. If the GM is too high then the vessel will appear very stiff and thereby reduces comfort of the crew. In addition this will increase the green water on board in rough sea. Keeping these two conflicting factors in mind, it is ideal to have GM of around 0.6 to 0.8 m.
