A naval architect is a professional engineer who is responsible for the design, construction, and/or repair of ships, boats, other marine vessels, and offshore structures, both commercial and military.

A project of this scale requires the involvement of specialist in various parts of the project including marine engineering (for machinery), electrical engineering (power systems), electronics, hydraulics, nautical science, interior design and whole lot of fields that involve here. However, the naval architect is person responsible to make sure that all these specialized fields and specialists come together to create a safe and economical project.
