The tanker construction starts with the owner requirement of a vessel and ends with the delivery of the ship. The step are mentioned in the chart on the right side. This is applicable for a modern shipyard like the ones in Korea or Japan.

During the construction of Oil tanker, there are various sub-group construction that goes in stages. Some of them are as follows.

Oil Tankers - Hull blocks construction

The construction of an oil tanker starts with the hull blocks. The blocks are unit of construction of the hull structure and the sizes varies from shipyard depending on the crane and the transportation capability. A typical tanker of 46,000 T DW would have around 60 blocks.
