From MarineWiki
Paddle propulsion is an earlier form of propulsion and it precedes screw propulsion. Its use are restricted to lakes and rivers, for either their antique looks or because of restriction on draught.
Disadvantages
- Inability to operate in large range of draughts.
- Can be easily damaged by floating bodies on water.
